Air Bag Switches for Safety

Airbag switches let you control your vehicle's air bags. This control can be essential for safety and to avoid disabling injury or even death. This is especially important if children or the elderly need to ride in front or if shorter drivers need to sit close to the steering wheel (10" is recommended by NHTSA; some medical authorities claim anyone closer than 12" to the steering wheel is in danger).  

In recognition of this danger, some manufacturers have offered airbag switches to control the passenger airbag in some of their vehicles. For the most part, they decided to allow a switch for the passenger airbag only if there is no room in the back seat for a rear-facing child car-seat.  Unfortunately this doesn't help those who need to use the back seat for other purposes and still need to seat a child in the passenger seat. Nor does it address the plight of the shorter drivers and passengers who have to ride in front of an active airbag, and for whom the airbag may be far more dangerous than the injuries likely in an accident. 

More than 80% of all motor vehicle accidents occur at less than 20 mph. At these speeds, drivers and passengers in the front seat are far more likely to be seriously injured by their airbag rather than by the accident itself. especially if they fit into one of the endangered categories established by NHTSA.
